August 27, 2013 - Tuesday - Today was a full day of work and for some reason it seemed extra long.  I think it's cause my tummy still hurts and I don't feel as well as I would like.

This afternoon I met with Sister Jackson who is the wife of the MTC doctor.  They are from Fillmore, Utah and know some of the same people from there that I know.  The world is really a small place when it come down to it.  Especially if you are a member of the church.  You will inevitably find someone who knows someone who knows you.  Funny thing about Sister Jackson is that she went to the same grade school and  junior high that I did.  She is just a couple of years older than me.  She went to Olympus High School and I went to Skyline which were rival schools, but she knew many of the same kids I knew and vice-versa.

I think Sister Doig must have mentioned that I was not feeling too well and that must have gotten around to whoever and it ended up in the doctors office and so they came and got me and took me over there.  I went for a long walk with Sister Jackson after.  I think she is trying to feel out whether I am homesick or really tummy sick.  I think I might be both.  It's been hard this week knowing that school (eskuwela) has started and I am not there. I wonder if I am missed and then think how selfish I am being.  It's about the kids and their learning and growing, not me. I just miss them much more than I realized I would.

Today we had a meeting in our office for those who are helping with the clean-up and relief efforts due to the storm last week.  Like everything else in the Philippines, things move at a very slow pace and get done when they do.   It's a very laid back society.  Nice in many ways.  However, the idea of hurrying when there is a need does not exist.  At times I find it a little frustrating.

Because all the big wigs from the humanitarian and relief efforts were in the office, lunch was served to everyone.  It was pizza and chicken (manok) wings and spaghetti and garlic bread which may seem an odd combination at home but is very traditional here.  However, the Pizza was vile, the garlic bread had sugar in the butter and garlic topping, and the spaghetti had cream sauce with grated ham on it.  I did not care for any one of them.  I ate one chicken wing and it was okay.  All in all, not a lunch  that I would want to repeat. although it was nice that we were included in the meal.  They attempt to take good care of us.

The Filipino people are extraordinarily generous.  Almost to a fault.  They will spend money they can't afford to spend to feed and please others. They are so kind.  And cheerful.  Most people smile ( ngumiti ) at you even though you are a stranger and mean nothing to them.  It's a very cheerful place. They have a lot to not be happy about but they have a very laid back attitude.  "It is what it is" and "Come what may and love it and embrace it".

READING WITH SISTER O’REILLY

2 Nephi 1 - Lehi realizes he is soon to die and so spends time with his sons and gives the prophesies regarding the land of liberty.  He reminds his sons that their lives were spared because of his vision which removed them from Jerusalem.  Now that Jerusalem is destroyed they would also have perished.  He is grateful, despite their many trials, that they have arrived safely in the land of promise.  He tells his sons of the promises of the land .  That no one will be able to invade or take away the land as long as the inhabitants live righteously and follow the commandments of God.  He wishes, like all parents do, that his children may be choice and favored  and live upright and prosperous lives.  He warns them of the consequences of not doing so.

Lehi calls forth his sons to awake and put on the armor of righteousness.  Shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and come forth out of obscurity, and rise from the dust.  He urges them to rebel no more against Nephi as he is concerned that they will go at him again and harm him. He reminds them of all Nephi has done for them by the power of God.  If they will harken unto the words of Nephi they will not perish but will be blessed.  This puts tons of responsibility on Nephi's shoulders and if the rest of them follow their normal pattern, they are going to really resent that Lehi has placed Nephi above them again.  Lehi wisely gives the boys the first blessing but warns them that unless they hearken unto Nephi, he(Lehi) will take the blessing away.  He includes Ishmael and Zoram in his blessings and promises.

The entire chapter is basically a call to repentance and change for everyone. Lehi sees the potential disaster that will come upon them if they refuse to do what he says.  He desperately wants to keep them all safe and favored of the Lord.  He is definitely trying to be not only a good parent but a spokesperson for God in admonishing righteous living.  Sounds a lot like the modern day prophets who desire only the best for each of us.

New Tagolog words for today

  • eskuwela = school
  • ngumiti = smile
  • manok = chicken (Both the bird and the meat)

Going to bed early as I am still not terribly well. Please be good and be happy. And if you aren't, then find a way to be.  I love you more than words can say.  Email please.  I miss you all.

Love, Miss Kate

Love,

Sister O'Reilly

Nowadays, many patients get confused when trying to get medications online because they don't know what is existing. To buy remedies online from a respectable web-site is safe. There are only couple of examples. Nowadays thousands articles were published about http://sildenafil-generic.biz/. Did read something about "sildenafil generic"? The very much vital aspect you must look for is "generic sildenafil". Sometimes men take more medicines later in life and some have sexual side effects that result in impotency. Some of medicaments fuel sex drive. If you buy any prescription medicaments like Viagra, check with a soundness care professional that they are foolproof to take with your other medications. However, with reputable pharmacy you get confidence in knowing that your order is being handled by reputable doctors and that your info is safe.
